INFERTILITY I: INFERTILITY CAUSES.

Traducido por Lizette Reneé Juárez García

If after a reasonable period of trying to get pregnant (6-12 months) a couple just don’t get that state then it is necessary to analyze in order to confirm or rule out the possible causes of infertility (male and female). Both have to undergo several studies in an Infertility clinic to make sure of the possible causes and propose the most suitable treatment because 50% are related to male infertility and the other 50% to female infertility.

The most common male infertility problems are:

- A low number of spermatozoids. It is considered as a normal count if there are more than 20 millions per milliliter of semen.

- Morphology changes in the natural movement of the spermatozoids.

- Problems related to the amount of semen produced (little or non-existent)

- Sexual activity alterations (impotence, etc.)

- Immunological problems.

On the other hand, female infertility is usually caused by the following:

- Hormonal changes that influence the ovarian maturation or in the ovular release (ovulation), this is the principal cause of female infertility.

- Anatomical obstruction of the fallopian tubes where the union of the ovule and sperm takes place.

- Endometriosis, in which the uterine tissue invades the adjacent organs causing infertility.

- Pelvic inflammatory disease.

- Changes in the cervical mucus that instead of helping pregnancy contributes to infertility.

- Immunological problems.

In order to get the precise diagnosis that causes infertility, the most important thing is to ask for advice and undergo to the pertinent treatment in a reliable health care center (infertility clinic). We have to keep in mind that it depends of the accuracy of the diagnosis to apply the correct treatment to get pregnant.
