Anemia Drepanocitica y sus Manifestaciones Sistemicas.7

La anemia drepanocítica constituye la hemoglobinopatía hereditaria más frecuente. Se caracteriza por episodios recurrentes de vasooclusión y anemia hemolítica crónica. Produce lesiones agudas y crónicas multiorgánicas que se manifiestan durante la infancia y se extienden a la edad adulta. La mayoría de los pacientes fallecen debido a las complicaciones sistémicas.

En la búsqueda de una cura de la anemia drepanocítica se han estudiado numerosos medicamentos sin éxito. Las líneas de investigación apuntan a anular uno o varios de los factores determinantes de las crisis vasooclusivas. Los avances recientes en la terapia génica son muy prometedores para tratamiento futuro de esta enfermedad. (3)
